Spencer Mecham Review: What the Record Shows

Executive Summary

Disclosure first. Rob Fore, who edits topearners.net, holds live affiliate positions with GoHighLevel (HighLevel) and with systeme.io. Spencer Mecham is a paid affiliate of both companies. HighLevel publishes a page called “HighLevel + Spencer Mecham Special Offer” that greets visitors with “Any Friend Of Spencer Mecham Is A Friend Of Ours!” and an extended trial VERIFIED. His systeme.io recommendation link forwards with a systeme.io referral parameter, and he promotes the product in a 2023 review video and six “systeme.io vs” comparison posts VERIFIED. So he and the editor compete for the same referrals. No referral code from either program appears on this page, and the same evidence standard applies here as on every other profile.

Spencer Mecham is a Utah affiliate marketer and the founder of Buildapreneur, a YouTube channel with 242,000 subscribers and 11,056,976 lifetime views since February 2017, plus a blog and a set of courses on affiliate marketing VERIFIED. His method is to stand in front of a search. Tutorials and comparisons on queries such as “what is ClickFunnels” send viewers to a software trial under his link, and a long email sequence does the follow-up; in 2021 he said “Most of my profits come through the email sequence” VERIFIED as his statement.

What ClickFunnels said and what he said. ClickFunnels’ own written show notes for its podcast on 13 Mar 2018 call him “one of ClickFunnels top Dream Car Winners” who is “now making his full time 6 figure income as an affiliate” VERIFIED. A ClickFunnels page archived in July 2019 says he “became the #1 Affiliate Marketer and ‘Dream Car’ Winner” but gives no period, measure or dollar figure VERIFIED. The bigger numbers are his own. He told Grit & Hustle, in an episode aired 22 Oct 2018, “I just hit the seven figure Mark last month” (20:49–21:00); he told Starter Story on 29 Aug 2021 that he makes “more than half a million dollars a year in profits”; and a video of 17 Jan 2024 opens on “more than $5 million in affiliate Commissions in The Last 5 Years” VERIFIED as statements. The “$80K revenue/mo” on Starter Story’s page is the site’s data card, filled from figures he supplied VERIFIED. No ClickFunnels source found says $1 million, and none calls him the first to reach it VERIFIED within the sources checked.

How the run was built. By his own 2018 account, YouTube and organic traffic produced the early sign-ups (“I was already bringing in like 1000 bucks from my YouTube stuff”), and he then put every commission back into paid search, from about $5,000 a month to $10,000 and $15,000, until he quit his job in February 2018 VERIFIED as statement, 14:00–16:00. He says “paid search”; the word Google comes from his own course title, “Simple 3 Line Google Ads That Made Me Over $1 Million in Affiliate Comissions” VERIFIED.

The early numbers, in order. On 14 Jul 2017 he showed his ClickFunnels dashboard on camera: “$20,000 since I signed up”, “$2,155 in monthly recurring revenue” and 44 active members, three or four months after joining VERIFIED as statement. By about December 2017 he put himself at “probably like 300 affiliates”, meaning referred users VERIFIED as statement. A video posted to Russell Brunson’s channel on 5 Jun 2019 carries the description line “full-time recurring monthly income (just like Spencer does)”; inside it Mecham says “I’m the number one clickfunnels affiliate” (1:28) and that he earns “without a single product that I own” VERIFIED. His course was already on sale by March 2018, so the video was most likely recorded about a year into the program, around early 2018 INFERRED.

A paid press release, not a news story. The line “Ready to Retire 35 Years Early At Just 31” heads an ACCESSWIRE release of 26 May 2020 marked “SOURCE: Buildapreneur”, with Mecham as the contact VERIFIED. Yahoo Finance runs the same text under its own note: “This is a paid press release.” VERIFIED. The release also calls him the first to join the ClickFunnels 2 Comma Club, which does not match ClickFunnels’ definition of that award, “for reaching $1M in sales inside a funnel” VERIFIED. In April 2021 he titled a video “I Retired With ONE YouTube Video” and said inside it, “i’m not actually going to be retiring today” VERIFIED.

Where it stands now. The channel drew 86,054 views in the trailing 365 days, about 7,000 a month on average and 11,000 to 13,000 a month lately VERIFIED. It posted four long-form videos and five Shorts in that year and nothing since 15 Jul 2026 VERIFIED. His course, Affiliate Secrets 3.0, has shown “CURRENTLY CLOSED. CHECK BACK IN 2024” in every capture from 1 Dec 2023 to today VERIFIED. His links now go to a HighLevel funnel offering a free “AI agency” course, and his 2025–2026 videos are about an Airbnb cabin and real-estate investing VERIFIED. He says he has 49,611 contacts (August 2025) VERIFIED as statement. A personal-wealth claim appears in one of his video titles; Top Earners prints no net worth figure for anyone.

Record. The searches that ran found no case or regulator action naming him or Buildapreneur; CourtListener did not complete, so that is not a full negative VERIFIED for completed searches; UNKNOWN beyond. From April to August 2022 he promoted YieldNodes on his Wealth Hacks channel and in three Buildapreneur descriptions, including a line that “They’ve paid out an average of 10% a month since 2019” VERIFIED. A later note on one of his videos says withdrawals were paused and that he “removed my link”; when he wrote it is not known VERIFIED; date UNKNOWN. Hong Kong’s SFC put YieldNodes on its Suspicious Investment Products alert list on 28 Feb 2024, and the Ontario Securities Commission warned on 11 Dec 2024 that it is not registered there; both are company-level and name neither him nor Buildapreneur VERIFIED. There is no caution flag.

The Edge

“Stand in front of the search” [PARTIALLY REPLICABLE]. He worked the queries buyers already type, such as “ClickFunnels review” and “best funnel builder”, first with YouTube tutorials and then with paid ads on the same intent, and he describes his traffic as “all targeted” with “no cold traffic” VERIFIED as his statement. The programs did much of the closing: ClickFunnels’ free trial, a cookie he says still paid “six months later”, 40% recurring commissions in 2017 to 2019, and a Dream Car target for 100 active users VERIFIED. His own summary of the growth: “the reinvesting continually and staying at my job longer than I needed to” VERIFIED as statement. The method is public, and he taught it; a 2019 interviewer, himself an affiliate of the course, told him that ClickFunnels ads “got a lot more competitive” after that VERIFIED.

What made it work then. Timing is structural. He joined as ClickFunnels’ affiliate program was scaling, at a moment when video results showed up for software searches VERIFIED dates; INFERRED reading. A newcomer needs a younger software category or a less crowded language. His written disclosure habit is part of the record: 261 of his 342 descriptions carry an affiliate disclaimer, every upload from 2017 to 2022 among them (when the line was added to those cannot be dated), and only 7 of the 243 descriptions with affiliate links lack it VERIFIED. The gaps are newer: 20 of 50 uploads carry it in 2023, 13 of 30 in 2024, none in 2025 or 2026, and the missing seven include an October 2024 GoHighLevel tutorial VERIFIED.

What not to copy. His best-known credential reached the public through a paid release his company issued, and review blogs, several written by affiliates of his course, repeat it VERIFIED. His “Systeme.io vs Go HighLevel” post sends readers through his systeme.io affiliate redirect nine times and shows no disclosure text, while its GoHighLevel links go to HighLevel’s plain homepage VERIFIED. “I receive referral payments from HighLevel” appears on his HighLevel funnel’s /ai and root pages and not on its /side-hustle or /start-here pages VERIFIED. A replicator should publish dated dashboards, put a disclosure on every review page, and check regulator lists before promoting any financial product INFERRED.

Score Note

This dossier scores 58, Tier 2, cohort Affiliate. The label “Search-intent SaaS affiliate” names what the record shows: software commissions earned on buyer searches, first ClickFunnels and now HighLevel.

Income: 25/40. The paying company’s own words clear the six-figure bar for 2018, and a 2019 ClickFunnels page adds a “#1” label with no figure or period attached VERIFIED. The seven-figure ClickFunnels mark, the 2021 profit and the five-year commission total are his statements only, and the ClickFunnels mark is gross of the paid search he says he bought VERIFIED as statements; INFERRED net. On the 2017–2018 terms of 40% of a $97 plan, a million dollars in about 18 months averages roughly $55,600 a month, around 1,430 basic-tier users, against the 44 he showed in July 2017; that needs steep 2018 growth or larger one-time commissions INFERRED. Activity: 6/20. No upload in the trailing 90 days and nine in twelve months; the last long-form video is dated 13 May 2026 VERIFIED. The blog has not changed since January 2024, the course checkout is closed, and his ClickFunnels account is paused; only the HighLevel funnel is live VERIFIED.

Dossier value: 7/10. The method is clear, dated and documented in his own interviews, videos and archived pages, and a reader can copy most of it VERIFIED; INFERRED. Held back by a credential that rests on a paid release, a 2022 crypto promotion to a beginner audience, and written disclosures that thin out on his newest uploads and a comparison post VERIFIED.

Three facts behind the score. (1) No caution flag. No case or regulator action naming him or Buildapreneur turned up in the searches that ran, and the YieldNodes actions concern the company alone. (2) Six figures is the company’s word; everything larger is his. ClickFunnels never states a million-dollar figure or a “first” in any source found. (3) The engine has slowed. The channel is quiet, the course is closed, and his links now send buyers to HighLevel, one of the two programs the editor also promotes.
